Day 1
Our adventure begins at the Selva Vida office in Puyo, where we will depart for the Shell airport to take a flight to the Waorani communities in the Ecuadorian Amazon. The first community lies an hour flight away inside of the Yasuni National Park; during the flight we´ll soar over magnificant views of the jungle.
Once we arrive in the community we´ll set up camp and have a chance to explore the community and meet some of the local families. On this visit we´ll have a chance to see some of the Waorani traditions and practices, such as the preparation of curare, a plant toxin used for subsistance hunting.
Day 2
After breakfast we´ll embark in our motor canoe down the river to take a short hike in the primary rainforest, accompanied by Waorani warriors, who will help us to discover the flora and fauna of the rainforest. In these parts of the rainforest live monkeys, parrots, toucans, and macaws, not to mention many more, in their natural environment, free and wild.
After lunch we will make our camp along the river and have a chance to relax and swim in the fresh water. At night we cruise along the river to look for crocodiles.
Day 3
Early in the morning we´ll wake up with the sunrise to take a walk in the jungle, looking for more animals. Along the way we´ll visit a natural salt lick where the animals often congregate to feed upon the salts and other minerals. Some of the birds we often see along this route are macaws, parrots, and tanagers. After lunch we´ll visit a lake where you can try your hand at fishing for pirañas.
At night we´ll spend more time with the Waorani warriors, hearing some of their stories of hunting and adventure, as well as traditional customs passed down through the years.
Day 4
In the morning we´ll visit another lake, where, with luck, we´ll have the chance to spot one of the most spectacular animals of the Amazonian rainforest, the mighty anaconda. After lunch we´ll visit a spot in the forest where you can find one of the most ancient residents of the Amazon, a 40 meter old growth fig tree.
At night the community will offer us a one of a kind goodbye party.
Day 5
After breakfast, we´ll say farewell to our Waorani friends and return to Shell / Puyo in airplane.
